Back to the Lake We Go
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The boys had fun playing at North Lake two times last week, so we headed back there again yesterday. It worked out well because I needed to make a commissary run in the morning, so that helped use up our time before the lake opened at 11. It was an overcast day yesterday, but plenty warm to be in the water.

Bouncin' and Splashin'
So far the boys and I have been having a super fun summer. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bummed when Brennan's preschool ended. It's such a nice routine for him and it gives me three mornings a week that I don't have to plan activities. I feel like I've done a good job so far (I mean it has only been a little more than a week) of keeping us busy with fun summer plans.
I guess both boys were excited about some more summer fun yesterday because Brennan came strolling into our bedroom at 6:14am and Bryce started fussing in his crib at 6:30. Brennan and I snuggled in bed until just before 7, but still it was a very early wakeup call.
This past weekend Brennan was talking about how he wanted to go back to the "bouncy house place", so I thought that might be a good spot for us to go. And it opens up nice and early at 9am and since we were obviously up it worked out perfectly. It's about a 30-40 minute drive to get there, but I just have to pay $10 for Brennan, so it's pretty cheap entertainment.
Here are a bunch of blurry iPhone pics because Brennan was on the move the whole time. Bryce has fun playing basketball and playing in the small arcade there. And of course I was the one who got injured. I'm obviously too old to play in bounce houses. I went down an inflatable slide and ripped skin right off my elbow.
Bryce took a little snooze on our ride home. One home, we ate some lunch, played a little, then I went ahead and put both boys down for early naps since they woke so early. Bryce took a great nap for me. Brennan laid in bed for about 40 mins, but didn't sleep. When Bryce woke up we decided to head to the splash pad again. Bryce didn't play much, but Brennan had a great time today.
Here's to many more fun summer days! In the fall Brennan will be in school five mornings a week, so we want to have as much fun now as possible!

Splash Pad
Woohoo! We got to go to the splash pad yesterday! We tried last week and for some reason it wasn't operating that day. I'm so glad it was working yesterday! We met some friends there since you're technically supposed to live in Navy housing to enter. Thanks, Amanda!
We got there about 20 minutes before the splash pad opened, so they boys could play at the playground. Brennan has become so much more social recently. He immediately started talking to and playing with a little girl there. They had fun. These pictures are too dark, but they were playing Ice Cream Shop using the wood chips. I loved watching him easily make a new friend! Bryce joined in too!
At 11 the splash pad opened. Brennan had been so excited about it all morning, but just like I expected, once we got there he was super timid and wanted me to be right with him. Bryce, on the other hand, went straight for it with no hesitation!
I wish I could've gotten better pictures, but a splash pad and cell phone don't mix very well. I did snap a couple of them going through this wall of water over and over and over again. This was once Brennan had gotten used to it and was having a blast too.
We will certainly be going back again soon! And I know both boys are going to have blast in August when we go to the waterpark in Tennessee!

Our Weekend
We had a pretty busy weekend!
Kyle and I attended a Change of Command service on Friday. He is now working for a new Commanding Officer. It was an absolutely gorgeous day for the ceremony, which was held outdoors right on the pier. We will greatly miss Kyle's former captain and his wife, Carmen, but are looking forward to getting to know this new family!

Kyle and I were able to get a couple of nice pictures of us too, which rarely happens.
It was nice to able to enjoy the ceremony sans kids. They were happily at home playing with Mackenzie. I came home and had lunch with the boys and they took naps. Brennan was up before Kyle and I headed out again, but Bryce was still sleeping. This time Auntie Val came over so Kyle and I could go to a party for his now former CO. So thankful for our awesome babysitters!
They rented a house in Mystic and we celebrated and had dinner outdoors catered by Paul's Pasta. It was such a pretty location!
Saturday morning we headed down to the Westbrook Outlets. Both boys needed some new shoes for the summer, so we hit up the Striderite outlet. I also hit the jackpot at the JCrew outlet and got 3 pairs of new shorts for less than $20 each! After a little shopping, we ate lunch at Five Guys. Bryce was wiped out, so we came home and put him down for a nap. Brennan still takes naps most days, but I let him stay up and he and I went to the Summer Reading Kickoff at our library. There was a science-teller (half scientist/half storyteller) program that Brennan really enjoyed.
After that we came home for about 45 minutes and then headed off to a graduation party for a teen from our church. I didn't really get any good pictures of the boys there. Brennan played inside a lot of the time and Bryce was just moving around constantly outside. We hadn't been there five minutes before Bryce fell and skinned his knee badly. He didn't even cry though. He's our tough guy for sure! The party also gave us a chance to say goodbye to another babysitter, Miss Meghan. She was flying out early the next morning for a month-long mission trip to Japan. Then after that she heads off to college.
Sunday started off like a normal one with praise team practice, Sunday school, and church. Afterwards we rushed home so Bryce could take a short nap before the boys and I went to a birthday party. Kyle needed to go into work for a few hours, so it was just me and boys at Anna and Petey's 4th bday party. Brennan went to school with them and we'd also see them most weeks at story time at the library. It was a fun outdoor party. I felt a little stressed having to constantly follow Bryce around, but both boys had a good time.
Bryce had a great time dumping juice boxes and water bottles all over his clothes!
They had lots of outdoor games set up and also huge swing set and trampoline.
My busy bodies actually sat down for a rest.

After grilling out, it was piñata time! Brennan had never done one before and was so excited.

I'm glad we were able to go celebrate with Brennan's friends. I'm sad he won't be in class with them anymore, but I'm hoping we will be able to still get together and play.

Wrestling and Turkey
Brennan has loved to wrestle with Kyle for as long as I can remember. He and I will wrestle sometimes, but it's really more of a Daddy thing. Here lately Bryce and Brennan have started wrestling. I was a little hesitant at first to let them go out it; mainly because I feared Brennan getting hurt. Bryce is much tougher! But I'm trying to relax and let them have fun.
When our church held its annual Missions Conference this year, we had a chance to hear several great speakers. One man spoke about Turkish World Outreach. After being stationed in Turkey years ago, this man developed a love for the country and an heart for helping its people learn about Jesus. You can't send active missionaries to Turkey, so he started sending letters and brought letters for our congregation to send too. I picked up a pack of 20 Turkish Gospel Letters and thought it would be a cool project to do with Brennan. They have been sitting on the kitchen counter for the past two months, but now that things have slowed down with summer vacation, Brennan and I worked on them on Thursday.
I checked out a book about Turkey from the library and we looked at some pictures. I stuffed and sealed all the envelopes and Brennan stuck all the addresses on them. We talked about how sad it would be to live in a place where you couldn't go to a church like ours and couldn't even talk about Jesus. We are both excited to go to the post office to mail these and pray over the people who will receive them!

Fun in the Sun
It was an absolutely beautiful day yesterday. It was the warmest day we've had so far. Both boys were out in our little pool by 9am.
We came inside and had a little snack while watching the movie WALL-E. We checked it our from the library last week and have watched it no less than 100 times since then. I think it's so funny that Brennan loves it so much. I love it too! Don't let the picture fool you. Bryce is sitting still for this picture, but was up and down off the couch about a million times. That kid does not sit still for long!
We ended up eating an early lunch. Brennan helped me fix a homemade pizza. The plan was to head to the local splash pad at 11. We got swim clothes back on and headed that way a little after 11 only to discover that it was closed for some reason today. We were already dressed for the water, so we just headed back to North Lake again. I didn't have any sand toys packed this time, but we made it work. Bryce was a little grouchy and ready for a nap, so we didn't stay too long. Brennan had a great time again.
We came home and both boys laid right down for their naps. I did a T25 workout and then took a little nap too. Last night Brennan had a little end of year celebration with his church choir. Afterwards it was home for bedtime for the boys and "So You Think You Can Dance" time for Momma!
