Future Submariner??
Brennan and I are getting super excited about our trip to the beach! I knew I wanted to make our last day at home special and full of fun so it goes by quickly. I decided I'd take him to the Submarine Force Museum. I've been several times when family members have visited and Brennan has actually been too, but not since he was a baby and being carried in the Ergo!
I thought it would be perfect for him today and I was right. He was in heaven! He kept wanting me to take his picture and would say "cheese" every time. The first nuclear-powered submarine is there for you to tour and I maneuvered by pregnant self and toddler through there like a pro! Maybe Brennan will be a submariner like his Daddy!
We miss you Dada!

Activity Binder
I've wanted to make something like this for Brennan for quite awhile now and finally got around to it. I'm all for activities that get a busy toddler up and moving around, but there are also times when you need something to keep them occupied while sitting; like on an airplane.
We take off for the beach soon and I am hoping this binder helps keep B content while flying. He's always been a wonderful flyer, but this will be his first time sitting in his own seat, so I wanted to make it special. I'm probably jinxing the success of the whole thing by blogging about before we go, but hopefully it's a hit.
I designed the binder based on skills I know Brennan has mastered or has recently shown interest in doing. I will obviously be sitting right beside him on the plane, so it's not something he will be doing on his own (although it could be used that way too). I printed the pages on card stock and put them in sheet protectors and he will be using dry erase markers. This way the pages can be done over and over again. I put some napkins in the pockets and will have wipes with me too to help clean off the pages when he wants to redo one. The pages would be much prettier in color, but I printed all mine in black and white because I'm cheap and boring. :)
Check out the pages I have included in his activity binder. I could've added pages for days and days, but had to stop somewhere. There are so many wonderful resources out there and I've linked to each one I used under the picture.
Letter Matching- I found this one the other day and thought B would love it. I was right. He asked to do it again later in the day, so I had to print out a new one. I wasn't sure he'd be able to draw a line connecting the upper and lowercase letters, but he did great. This is the only page from his activity binder he's completed before; everything else will be new to him.
Shape Detective- Brennan loves shapes and I liked how this one wanted you to find matching shapes, but some were different sizes or in different positions.
Prewriting Skills- Brennan did such a good job drawing lines in the letter matching activity that I drew an X for him on a blank page and had him trace the two lines. He did it over and over and over again. So I set off to find some tracing pages for him. There are a ton out there!
I also printed a few different tracing practice sheets from this website. I need to explore the site more because it looks like it has TONS of good stuff.
Fall Do-a-Dots- Brennan still likes using his Do-a-Dot markers. We won't be using the actually markers with his activity book, but I thought he would still like to color in the dots on these pages.

Fall Match Up- I printed off these matching puzzles and put them in sheet protectors too for Brennan to pull out and work on. There were a lot of them, so I divided them into four separate groups of 8-9 pictures each so he won't be overwhelmed.

I'm really hoping he likes this binder. I will also have lots of other activities (including the ever-valuable iPad) and plenty of snacks for him on the plane too. Here's to a good flight!

Our Wild Wednesday
Okay, it definitely wasn't wild, but now that Brennan is in school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, If feel like it's even more important to get him out and about and keep him entertained on other days of the week.
Yesterday we started our day at the aquarium. This is a horrible picture because it was so super bright outside, but I'm so happy we have this place less than 5 minutes from our house to enjoy.
After the aquarium we hit up the playground. I had a meeting right beside this playground the night before and promised B we'd go back. It was GORGEOUS outside yesterday, but we were the only ones there! Brennan spent the majority of him time picking up wood chips and throwing it on the slides.
While watching him play, the baby got hungry. He wanted a taco salad. He does look malnourished, right?!?! Haha!
So we headed to a little local Mexican restaurant; just the two (and a half) of us. It was yummy! Brennan ate his grilled cheese like it was candy and I even ordered us a fried ice cream! When we pulled in the driveway at home, a friend pulled up right behind us to drop off a hand-me-down gift for Brennan; a Powerwheels! It's definitely used, but B doesn't care and jumped in and started driving right away! Look at that face!
It might not have been wild, but it was a fun, busy Wednesday morning for us! Today Brennan had another great day at school! So happy he's loving it!

Dear Brennan,
Wowzers! You're 31 months old today! Is time ever going to slow down?!? It sure seems to fly by. I can hardly believe that your Dada has already been on his submarine for over month. It's been pretty uncommon in Navy terms because he's had three ports right in a row, so we've gotten to talk to him often. It's pretty cute to watch you FaceTime with him. You get all excited at the beginning, but then you are all over the place playing and I'm following you around so Dada can watch. You always say, "Dada, show you" when you want to show him different things you can do.
You are wearing a mixture of 2T and 3T clothes. I just had you try on your blue jeans from last year and thankfully you have quite a few pairs that fit. Many were too big last spring and fit perfectly now, which makes Mommy happy because I don't have to go buy you any right now. You have a lot more pairs of pants I need you to try on, but it's not your favorite thing to do, so we will just try to do a few each day. It's been pretty funny because each morning you get to pick out your own underpants you will wear that day. You have all these cartoon ones, but lately the only ones you will wear are the plain white ones because they have fruit on them (Fruit of the Loom tag in the back). You're doing great with going to the potty and your BMs have been MUCH improved over the past month! We have a scale from when you were a baby and you wanted to lay on it the other day, so I plopped on you on there and it said you weighed a little over 29lbs. So maybe you're about ready to cross that 30 pound mark soon. You still wear 6.5 shoes, but I'm not sure how long those are going to last.
You continue to sleep fine at night and take good naps most days. You're so easy to put to bed and even though Mommy is the one that does it 99.9% of the time, you went right to bed for Mackenzie when she babysat a few weeks ago. Some days you've been waking up right at 7am, which is a little early for this Momma, but you wake up happy and smiling, so that's good. I'm hoping you start waking up dry soon, but I'm not sure you're ready for that yet.
Some of the bigger things that happened around here this past month are that we found out baby #2 is another boy and you started school. You got to come with Mommy to have her ultrasound and even though the tech thought it was a girl at first, it ended up being a boy. You will now say it's a "boy baby" and that its name should be "share". You talk all about how you're going to share toys with the boy baby. You like playing in the "baby's room" and even getting into the crib and sitting. Today is only your third day of school, but so far you seem to LOVE it. I'm so happy. You come home talking nonstop about what you've done there.
You pretty much talk nonstop all day. There really isn't anything you can't say anymore. Sometimes other people have a hard time understanding you, but your words are getting clearer and clearer. Here are some of my current favorite sayings of yours: "so neat", "hurry up people are coming" (Mommy tells you that on the playground when you're climbing slowly), "so proud of you", "Mommy crazy", and "ta-da-da" (instead of just ta-da). You sometimes mix up the words "you" and "me", which I know is super common for kids. You'll say, "Mommy help you" when you need help. You know now that I'm not going to come help you right away though and will then say, "Brennan try, Brennan try again" and then get so excited when you're able to do it on your own.
You are now able to take your shoes off all by yourself. I know you can take your pants and underwear off yourself too, but you always want Mommy to do that. That's one thing where we need to start working towards independence. Your climbing skills are so much better than they used to be. It still blows my mind when I see these little 12 month olds running and climbing at the playground and you're just now able to do those things, but I know all that gross motor stuff evens out eventually.
Your current favorite tv shows are: Sid the Science Kid, Special Agent Oso, and you've just recently started watching Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. We opened a package Dada left for us and The Lorax was inside and we've watched it over and over since opening it. I know I need to limit your screen time more than I do, but that's the main area I struggle as a current single Momma. Most of the time you aren't just sitting still watching; usually things are on in the background while we play. You are still liking the iPad and your favorite app is still Little Writer Kid.
I have all these sight word activities pinned on Pinterest and I really think you're ready for them. You can read the number words for one-ten now in random order. And just the other day you pulled this magnet off the fridge and said, "Mommy, to" and sure enough it was the word "to". You're a smarty pants for sure.
You sometimes throw little tantrums, which is really just you being whiney. Since Dada is gone right now, it's super important that I not get frustrated with you because then we just both feel bad. If you start to get whiney at home, I just pick you up and sit you on your bed. I tell you that you can get down when you're ready to be sweet. Sometimes you get down on your own and sometimes I come in and get you after a few minutes. Once you're on your bed, it takes only a few seconds for you to stop whining and then when you're down we can move on. There are certain times of the day that I know are more difficult than others; the main one being when I'm fixing dinner. I have learned that I need to make sure you are happily occupied during this time otherwise you're constantly calling my name. When we are out, you're super easy to distract if you're about to have a meltdown. If we can find some letters or numbers to read, then you're happy again.
During the past month you've gotten a lot more interested in coloring and drawing. This has gotten super fun because you now always tell me what you're drawing. Usually you draw Mickey Mouse, Mommy, or a submarine. Your drawings don't look anything like those things, but it's so fun to see your imagination at work. You can draw a circle completely on your own now.
This month you'll get to fly on an airplane again. Since Dada's been on shore duty until recently, he's always been around to take our trips with us, so this will be Mommy's first solo flight with you. I think you'll do great though. You're a good little traveler. We are flying to Myrtle Beach to see LaLa, CDub, GaGa, GeeGee, and Hollie. I'm hoping for good weather because I think you'll love the pool and beach.
I feel like I think every stage you go through is my favorite. This age is so much fun. I love all the new things you and say and do and I love your sense of humor. I'm excited to make the most out of these next four months before your little brother comes along. You are such a sweet little boy and make my job pretty easy most days. I know your Dada misses you a lot and is so proud of what a good boy you are being while he's away.

Lovin' Life
Brennan puts a sticker on a sticker chart everyday as a countdown until Dada comes home. It seems so hard to believe that he's already been gone for a month. Time is truly flying by. I hope it keeps going this fast!
I try to keep busy during the day and I think that has helped make time go by quickly. Here's a little of what we've been up to lately. It might not seem like anything exciting, but I love spending time with this little guy.
He looks so big to me when he wears his KY jersey.
On Friday we helped out a friend by driving her to pick up her car. Three boys in my car (not counting the one in my belly). Love it!
One thing I am super thankful for is that when B wakes up from his nap, he usually wants to do something quiet like a puzzle. Yesterday he opted for his shape sorter.
The quiet, peaceful activities don't last long though. He asked to go play outside and since he was 80 degrees still at 4:30 yesterday it was the perfect opportunity to use his water table. It started out like this; just dumping water in the funnel.
But then progressed to dumping water on his shirt.
And it ended up like this; dumping water right on top of his head. Over and over and over again. Needless to say I think he's going to have a great time in the pool and at the beach when he visit Myrtle Beach at the end of the month!
After drenching himself with water, it was time to climb on the rocks!
This morning we got a special surprise; we were able to Skype with Dada again. I know Kyle is glad to talk to us, but he's ready to get back underway. They've been stuck in Norway for a while. After talking to him, B and I headed to our church's first Upward soccer game of the season. B had a great time running all around and even got to eat a cupcake!
I decided to keep our fun morning going with lunch at McDonald's. Brennan was so happy to go there but then was over the moon when they gave him this ruler!
He had a mini-meltdown as we were leaving McDonald's, but it's so easy to distract him. I just asked him if he could help me read the letters and numbers on the back of my car when we got outside. That's all it took. Major meltdown avoided. This kid just loves letters and numbers. We came home and wrestled; one of his favorite activities!
And even played a little basketball.
Now he's taking a nap! Hoping he takes a good one today!

A Few of His Favorite Things
I know I shared this picture of Brennan yesterday, but today I asked him about some of his favorites and asked him what he wants to be when he grows up. I wanted to type up his answers on his picture like I had seen on Pinterest.
Most of these questions he answered himself. I picked his favorite book because his favorite is usually one of the books we currently have checked out from the library, but I went with one of his own that he has loved for a long time.
And I have no idea why he said he wanted to be a queen when he grew up. Maybe because my good friend, Kathryn, sometimes goes by Queen. No idea. But pretty funny.

Brennan's First Day of School
Today Brennan started a little preschool class. He'll be going to the United Methodist Child Care Center (UMCCC) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30. I know it's going to be so good for him. He's a smart little guy, but needs to learn more about sharing, waiting his turn, and other social skills that are hard to teach him as an only child at home.
I'm not 100% sure how I'll use my time on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Today I had an OB appointment, so that kept me busy for the first hour. There are also some organizational projects I'd like to work on around the house.
I found this little poem online by Wendy Silva. I know he's just going to school two days/week, but I thought this was pretty cute. I might like it that much more because I'm all hormonal and get weepy reading it even though I am super excited for Brennan!

It was forecasted to rain all day and it rained early this morning, but thankfully we caught a break in weather and ran outside to snap a few pictures. He's such a goober!
We have been talking about school for months now. I had been trying to prepare Brennan for his first day and told him that Mommy was going to drive in a circle and help him out of the car, but then he was going to walk in with his teacher. We talked about some of the fun things that are in his classroom once he gets there too. All the talk definitely paid off. He knew exactly what was going to happen and was a little miffed that we had to wait in the car line; he was ready to go. I was going to take a picture of him walking into school, but it happened so fast. He just grabbed the teacher's hand and walked right in without any tears and without looking back. When I picked him up (in the POURING rain) his teacher said he did great and didn't cry at all. I couldn't be any more proud of him.
Here he is after school soaking wet after getting in and out of the car (and spilling Mommy's water all over himself on the drive home)!
We have talked a little bit about what he did at school. He says that he played and he has tried to sing me a song he learned, but I don't understand many of the words. Something about "hello" I think. He had a snack and he said that he shared. I am so happy he had a good day and I hope he's just as excited to go back on Thursday.

I found this little poem online by Wendy Silva. I know he's just going to school two days/week, but I thought this was pretty cute. I might like it that much more because I'm all hormonal and get weepy reading it even though I am super excited for Brennan!

It was forecasted to rain all day and it rained early this morning, but thankfully we caught a break in weather and ran outside to snap a few pictures. He's such a goober!
We have been talking about school for months now. I had been trying to prepare Brennan for his first day and told him that Mommy was going to drive in a circle and help him out of the car, but then he was going to walk in with his teacher. We talked about some of the fun things that are in his classroom once he gets there too. All the talk definitely paid off. He knew exactly what was going to happen and was a little miffed that we had to wait in the car line; he was ready to go. I was going to take a picture of him walking into school, but it happened so fast. He just grabbed the teacher's hand and walked right in without any tears and without looking back. When I picked him up (in the POURING rain) his teacher said he did great and didn't cry at all. I couldn't be any more proud of him.
Here he is after school soaking wet after getting in and out of the car (and spilling Mommy's water all over himself on the drive home)!
We have talked a little bit about what he did at school. He says that he played and he has tried to sing me a song he learned, but I don't understand many of the words. Something about "hello" I think. He had a snack and he said that he shared. I am so happy he had a good day and I hope he's just as excited to go back on Thursday.
