My B-Nugget

Kelly, over at Kelly's Korner, is talking about baby names today in Show Us Your Life. For those of you who don't know, here is how we came up with Brennan James.

Kyle and I have had a girl named picked out since we were dating. I'm surprised he didn't take off running when I brought up a baby girl's name and we weren't even engaged yet! I remember visiting him in Charleston, SC and going out to eat at Chili's after church. While there I told him I thought we should name a baby girl Kaelin Leigh. Kaelin was Kyle's mom's maiden name. She passed away when he was in college, so I never got to meet her. I thought it would be a great way to honor her. Her middle name happened to be the same as mine, Leigh. Spelled the same way too! Hopefully we'll still get to use Kaelin Leigh someday!

When we found out I was having a boy, we started talking about boy names. Several of my favorites were Levi, Caleb (or Kalob), and Liam. Kyle's favorite from the beginning was Gabriel. I liked Gabe, but Gabriel wasn't my favorite. We continued narrowing down our list and I was confident the little guy was going to be Levi. However, I continued looking at names and watching the credits of movies and TV shows for ideas. One night we were watching N.C.I.S. One of the producers is named Shane Brennan. All of a sudden, I added Brennan to my list. I asked Kyle what he thought and I think he thought I was kidding at first because we were supposed to be narrowing down our list, not adding to it.

Fast forward to November 2009. I had a long day at school following parent conferences. Kyle and I ended up meeting for dinner at Chili's. Weird. I just realized that our girl name and boy name were decided at Chili's! While there we talked about names again and wondered when we were going to decide. We decided to decide then and there! I brought up Brennan again and Kyle said he liked it. So we went with it! We knew all along the middle name would be James. Kyle's dad and brothers are all named James.

As we continued eating that night at Chili's, a family was seated near us. The baby was crying a lot and at the end of the meal the mom apologized to us and said, "Well at least it's good birth control!" I laughed and told her I was pregnant. She asked if I was having a boy or girl and when I said, "boy, " she asked if we had a name. We told her Brennan James after having just decided minutes before!

Now whenever we watch N.C.I.S. or N.C.I.S Los Angeles we see Shane Brennan and smile. We also watch the show Bones, which has a character named Dr. Brennan.

Friday's Fab Five

TGIF!

Here's a quick lil recap of some fabulousness from the past week!

1. I already blogged about our Kentucky Derby party on Saturday, but it definitely still makes my Fab Five!

2. On Sunday, Brennan fell asleep before church began. I decided he would probably sleep better if I took him down to the church nursery. (Eeek!) So I was brave and Brennan has now experienced the nursery. Amanda said it's probably better at his age because he isn't crawling around and playing with germy toys. It was nice to be able to enjoy the service knowing he was in good hands downstairs. (Although I might keep him with me this Sunday since it is Mother's Day!)

3. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Wednesday, we went to dinner at Margaritas! YUM! We met the Dishmons and Fretts there. Brennan wasn't on his best behavior, but the food was good and the fellowship even better! Normally we attend OCF on Wednesday nights, but it was nice to take a break and get Brennan in bed on time on Wednesday.

4. Yesterday, our local mall hosted a Mom's Night Out event. Amanda, Christie, Brennan, and I headed over there to check it out. The first 100 people to visit 12 booths and return to the check-in table received a free goodie bag full of fun stuff! On a sadder note, New York and Co. was having a 50% off everything sale and I found nothing to buy. BUMMER!

5. In less than a hour I will be leaving for my first Stroller Strides meeting. I'm gonna check it out and see what I think. I need something to motivate me get into shape. (I almost said "get back into shape", but I don't think I was ever there to start with.) I will let you know how it goes. If I make it out of there alive. The meeting is at Eastern Point Beach and it looks like a beautiful day, so it should be fun!

Wishful Wednesday

While doing some blog-stalking this week, I discovered a new blog. The author does a Wednesday post called Wishful Wednesday and I've decided that I might try to join in the fun!

Today's topic is: 'I wish' .... I was fluent in another language in addition to English, and it would be ________!

I've been thinking about this one for about a day now. Thankfully the topic is posted early to allow time to think of your answer. However, I'm still not sure I know which language I'd pick.

Spanish would be the easiest for me I guess because I took three semesters of it in college. I am no where close to fluent, but I can speak a little bit, so at least I wouldn't be starting from scratch.

I also think it would be fun to speak Italian. I've always wanted to go to Italy. Kyle and I were going to go there on our honeymoon before the Navy ended up sending us to Groton, CT for our honeymoon. Obviously it would be pretty awesome to speak their language if I ever do get there.

I also wouldn't mind learning some of these Hawaiian phrases in case I ever make it to Hawaii.

So, I guess I didn't play fair since I didn't pick just one.

Oh well, this is my first time!

Another Video

The last video I posted of Brennan was so popular, that I decided to try again. I don't think this one is quite as cute, but he still makes a few a noises for you all to enjoy!

Go Baby Go!

We had a little Kentucky Derby party at the house today. Josh, Amanda, and Adah came over. So did Beth and Luke. I fixed white chicken chili for the first time ever and it was yummy. We also got to enjoy a Derby Pie courtesy of Mrs. Hamilton! It was so much fun to visit with friends and watch Super Saver win the Derby!
